Is the 'newer' Skins worth watching? I stopped watching after season 2 because I heard some mixed reviews. I've been thinking about giving it a shot though.. what do you think?

Personally I like the second two seasons better than the first, but I'm very very much in the minority. I love the entire show, but something about the newer cast just clicked with me. It's all gorgeous though, I recommend it for what that's worth :P

I agree -- the newer cast definitely has their strong points & I don't think I clicked nearly as well with the female characters from the first two seasons as I did with some of the new female characters. I think that a lot of people haven't liked seasons two or three just because they haven't been willing to open their minds to new characters & are still hung up worrying about what happened with Cassie and Sid or something like that.

I do think that the new seasons are worth watching -- I really like some of the characters in seasons 2/3 (especially Naomi and Emily.) It does have its hit or miss moments, but I think that the quality is definitely up there with the first two seasons. I think that the hardest part is getting yourself to let go of your old favorite characters and open your mind to new ones.

I was just in Chicago and we fell in love with Julius Meinl (kinda expensive, but lovely coffee & everything we ate was so good!) and Sultan's Market(super cheap everything and filling!). There's a Renegade Handmade store, but it's a bit out of the way, but we found it. If you pass a Brown Elephant thrift store, you must go inside! I have found so many amazing things there.

Those links are to Dave's reviews on Yelp for the most part. He rarely gives 5 stars, but honestly those places were amazing!

I remember you writing about some of these places in your LJ when you wrote about your trip to Chicago. I'll definitely have to check them out. (Thanks so much for linking to Dave's Yelp reviews! It's always nice to have more information.)

You are so welcome!

Also, you may want to start checking out Groupon to see if anything pops up that might be fun to use while in Chicago. Groupon gives local deals to restaurants, spas and a lot of other things. They are normally at least 50% off, sometimes mores. There's also one for Cleveland, but I don't know how far away that is from you. That's my referral link, so I don't know if it'll automatically send you to the Boston deals or not. We've bought mostly restaurant Groupons so far, but I did get Dave a massage!

d00d, you have to eat at Soul Vegetarian. It's Soul Vegetarian or bust. People will say Chicago Diner is what it's about in Chicago, but it's not. It's about Soul Vegetarian. Get a pint of Chicago Soy Dairy, too, and maybe some Daiya cheese (which they put on pizzas at Whole Foods in Chicago) or Dandies marshmallows. There's an all-vegan Chinese buffet called Alice and Friends, too, which I haven't been to but one of my BFFs there recommends quite enthusiastically.

Thanks so much for all your great suggestions, Micco! Also, I got your e-mail about the "Feel no guilt" patch. I've set one aside for you & will send it with my long overdue letter.

Oh, and you have to go to the bookstore Quimby's! Which has lots of good record stores and whatnots nearby! (Also good sex stores if you're into that. My favorite is something called Lilac or Lavender or something - seriously best sex store I've ever been to, bar none. It's very non-threatening, has quality selection and varied selection, reasonably priced, and the people that work there are really friendly and know what they're talking about.)

There's lots of good vintage/thriftstores/boutique-y blahblahs in Evanston, too.

I'll for sure be at Quimby's, but Myopic sounds great! I'm a sucker for a good used books store.

The Friday programming of the zine fest is at Quimby's, I think.
