Because I feel like it I'm going to be posting my personal favorite videogames when it comes to intellectual stimulation in gaming. This will at least for me represent games which posess something beyond the simple layers of graphics and gameplay. yeah, totally agree.

FFX was telling a great story, true, but that story was sort of poorly developed. There was really only one angle, and it was just a touch of the surface. It had great thematic components though which drew more of it together, and I found that Suikoden had some trouble with theme once in a while.

FFX2 was terrible. Period.

I remember what I wanted to say now.

FFX went for a big scope, but lost that scope of story because the gameplay got in the way. Notice that the Suikoden stories had a more narrow scope but developed all of it really well. Quality versus quantity I guess. More of the story was developed by interacting with other characters, as opposed to quests when you really think about it. FFX always had a quest to tackle, and there weren't very many people to talk to, and too few of them had anything relevant to add to the story.
