Hmmm ... Just thought I'd log on and catch up on some peoples and their lives ... but really, no one seems to have posted in ever (myself inclusive!!) So I figured it's time I picked up on my slacker ways and posted something ... even though people might not even read it ( Read more... )

Well, I do have a job, which is very good - I don't know so much about the "we love Danyela" bit, but the person who interviewed me liked me in any event :)

uhm ... Hey Tristen, I got a job!!! *Yaaaayyyy!* I'm in R&D (research&development) at Inovatech (a protein bioproducts company - www.inovatechbio.com). I'm supposed to basically test different parameters for the isolation of trypsin from pancreatic cells in order to optimize the yield without "ruining" (what's that word again??) the quality of the product in a cost-effective procedure ... So far I've been doing trypsin and chymotrypsin tests - the company is basically trying to decrease the percent of chymotrypsin in the product because it has a bitter taste (pharmacetical products, i assume ...) and i'm frustrated because it takes me all day to get practically no results :S *sigh*

It's 4 months for now with the possibility to extend it to 8 (I'm pretty sure my supervisor WANTS to extend it to 8, but I'm not sure if I want to do 8 yet ... it's kinda long). As for training, I wish somebody would take some time out to train me!! I've sort of been thrown in there with "this is the procedure, follow it ..." without really knowing WHAT is going on exactly. My supervisor is leaving in 3 weeks on maternity leave, and it's pretty hectic for her trying to do this and that before she goes, so she really hasn't had much time for me at all ... she said sometime this week, hopefully. I still don't really know what I'm supposed to be doing exactly in this lab, but for now I'm helping one of the other R&Ders. What's scary is when she asks me questions, even though it's only my 4th day ... I don't know??? (We're doing a procedure that's new to her too ...)
