Living in Paintings - SecondLife

I've never embedded a video before. In fact, I don't even like videos, I rarely click on them myself. So I will understand if you don't click on this one. But please do. It is such a great way to explain why I've become so instantly and completely addicted to SecondLife. It's not a game, it is a palette for creating worlds.

Completely safe for work ( Read more... )

The artist who built it is really amazingly talented. Clearly, most folks in Second Life could never do what he did. But for those with the time, skills, and desire, such stunning things can be made, and shared with others. I hope to someday have one-thousandth of that guy's skills.

Come play!

I actually thought about you guys when I found out that there are people who do live music performances in SL. Interesting venue, eh?

Intriguing. The most I've ever done with SL is sign up, walk towards the tutorials, and say "I'll come back to that when I have some time." Ha! Now I've got something to motivate me.

Do you know any details about how the live music is done? Do people upload MP3s of their performances? Is there some sort of musical instrument device in the world that people can plunk out tunes on?

Apparently you can do live audio feeds through other websites. Here's more info.

I'me blown away by the framed shot at the end. Knowing that this painting actually is a window into another little world, instead of only appearing to be one, is very compelling.

I know the first thing I thought was "Can I go visit there? What would it be like to be inside a painting?" Monte wants to see what could be done to replicate Bosch.

What's the coolest/most complex thing you've built so far in SL? I'm curious how they straddle the line between 'easy-to-use' and 'powerful' in their tools.

Well I've only been in world since June, so I'm still a newbie. The first big thing I built was a labyrinth. Just a series of walls laid out in a defined shape, with some nice texturing and simple columns and signs (it was for a group orientation thing). No scripting involved. Tedious, but pretty simple ( ... )
