Now an update. Honestly.

So, I’ve been back home almost a week now and the jet lag is wearing off, it’s always worse going back in time. My mom still can’t sleep, but I beat that by barely shifting from Japanese time. Sure I don’t get up until halfway through the day, but that’s one of the bonuses of my status. Right now, that status is sitting on my ass waiting to get on another plane.

I’m mostly packed, but need to haul everything out and redistribute; I must find a way to even out the weight of my bags. I’m happy to say though that I finally got around to buying the bedding I need for the bed I’ll hopefully be supplied with when I get there.

It was a friend’s birthday yesterday, and in celebration we ate hamburgers and cake. Until then, I didn’t know DQ made ice cream cakes without vanilla.

She has two friends visiting from Japan, giving me more chance to practice my Japanese. Of course, one was an American graduated from a Japanese seminary who runs a youth group over in Nagoya..but she was interesting at least. It’s funny how people who live in Japan long enough pick up a lot of the more common mannerisms, but seem to combine them with American to make something not quite right.

After dinner, and much cajoling and blackmailing and the like, we went to the lake. Getting down to the water was an adventure, after discovering nobody knew the way to the first choice of beach, and finding the cell phone battery being too low to use the flashlight by the time we reached the trail for the second. It’s a trail I know though, so I gaily skipped down in the dark trying not to kill myself over any exposed roots.

The lake itself was beautiful, just light enough by 11;30 to see the far shore and island, but too dark to see people in the water. The water itself was black, and I learned a new Japanese phrase, shizen ga ipai. Probably spelt that wrong, but it doesn’t seem to have a very good translation into English. Needless to say it works much better than anything I’ve come up with in English. I guess you could talk about natural spirits, or the religious would speak of it being a place and time where you can feel god around you. But for me, shizen ga ipai, there’s lots of nature, will have to do the job.

Then I came home and didn’t sleep.

And, for the ever demanding (thought not really, I think he’s forgotten) panthrix, I bring tale three

So we’ve decided to change the world. Not in the little ways, changing yourself as an example to the masses, or effecting quiet revolution in the community. No, we’ll start big and work small, dig up ground and cut down trees before planting our garden. What I mean is; let’s shake things up a bit.

We need a plan though, a way to tear everything until only dust is left. If we’re gonna have a revolution, we need that first small step, the giant leap of ideals.

I say the first thing we do, lets kill all the lawyers. We’ll stop this condemning of the poor during the absolution of the wealthy; no more fortunes made of another’s crimes. Sure could start somewhere less difficult, but what’s the point? This isn’t about doing our part; or it is, but not in the way most would expect.

After the lawyers you see, we get rid of the philosophers. People who think that much, and that well, are dangerous in any society, community, or glorified city-state. Philosophers you see, can tell us the why and how, not of the scientific workings of the universe, but of the mind. The way a philosopher thinks rubs off on those around him and soon everyone goes about actually paying attention to the things and people around them, and to what constitutes justice and all kinds of other nasty ideas. Dangerous.

With the lawyers and philosophers out of the way, we’ll be sake to go after out true targets, the ones who need some shaking and some tearing. I don’t know who these are yet, they won’t show themselves until after. The ones we want, the true threats to our little revolution are those that would stop us, those that would stop the grand changes we offer their world. In rejecting us they show their souls and we’ll become their Shivas, their destroyers and transformers. Politicians, priests, college deans and garbage collectors; all of these will, for obvious reasons, have to go. This world has always had a few screws loose. Instead of tightening the nut or adding washers as everyone else strives to, we’ll pull them out and find a new way of holding things together.

But first, we must take care of the lawyers. It’s a small leap into the darkness; but you have to spill blood to save it, and make war for peace. This is our war; let’s go push our way though to a better world. We fight for the future, and we’ll make it ours.
