I've been doing engine work for three days now.  Let me just say right off the bat that I am....oh, let's call me a chronically anxious engine mechanic.  I don't do a whole lot of engine work- there's so much more to do on the airframe, and the engines that go on the AStars are relatively trouble-free most of the time.  So I don't get a ton of ( Read more... )

I have (had) a maglite that I kept in my toolbox at work for inspections, seeing into dark crevices in the aircraft, that kind of thing..  I was very happy with that maglite.  It was one of the normal-sized ones that took two AA batteries, fit perfectly in the pockets of all my work pants and shorts, had an LED kit on it so it was nice and bright, ( Read more... )

Today was engine pull day.  It was the first one I've ever done completely on my own, and I did okay!  Didn't forget anything, didn't drop the engine (I did have another mechanic help with the hoist- that can be done by one person, but it's sooooo much easier with two).  It took me about 4 hours, which is respectable, though if I had to, I could ( Read more... )
