100 Super Junior Fiction Challenge:
Title: Puppies
Pairing: #53 teuk.chul (83line, i love their interactions)
This was one of those rare days when all the dongsaengs were out, leaving just Jung Soo and Heechul in the dormitory.
“Yah Teuk-ah,” came Heechul’s call for Jung Soo suddenly, “Shall we do something together today? The dongsaengs have all got stuff to do too, it’s just us two. We can have some 83-line bonding!”
“Oh really? How about we go out then?” Jung Soo asked happily. However, his good intentions were not so well-received by Heechul.
“Yah, are you kidding me? With my handsome face, do you really think no one will recognize me in my disguise?” Heechul said with a scowl.
“Yah, you were the one who said you wanted to spend time together today and do some bonding. What else can we do other than to go out? Play Starcraft the whole day with you? You know it’s not my style,” Jung Soo said half-jokingly before turning back to preparing breakfast. “Besides,” he added, “I want to go out and buy Donghae a new puppy.”
“Another one?!” Heechul asked. “Doesn’t he already have 2 puppies or something?”
“You used to have a few kitties yourself too, don’t deprive the dongsaengs of their right to have pets too. Anyway, I promised him already, so I’ll have to get him one.”
And Heechul’s face turned sour immediately.
“Then… what’s going to happen to Baengshin? And Heebum too! He’s already jealous with all the attention that Baengshin has… Heebum, our Han Jay Hee Bum, the one’s who’s been here forever!”
“Yah, stop it,” Jung Soo said quietly suddenly, “You know how Donghae’s like whenever… that day’s about to come.”
“Oh,” came Heechul’s soft reply when realization hit him. Yeah, it was one of the two days that nobody in the dormitory, or even the company mentions about.
The anniversary.
Of the passing.
Of the accident.
He’ll never forget it, never.
If anything, his leg will forever serve as a walking, and living, reminder of that day.
“… Yah,” Heechul started softly again, “How many puppies does that boy already have?
Heechul asked his friend. “Should we get him another kind like Bada?”
Jung Soo stopped his hand in mid-air, the knife never going through the cucumber. In fact, not only did it not go through the cucumber at that moment, it never went through for the rest of the day. He laid the knife down and turned to face Heechul, the friend who has always had such a tough exterior but soft inside.
“Yah, do you even remember how Bada looks like?” He asked jokingly, seeing that Heechul never ever played with the puppies at home. His focus on the pets in their dorm was limited to just Heebum and Baengshin, and occasionally, when they were still around, Hyaku and Sen.
“Obviously I don’t, that’s why we need to go out together to pick the puppy out. Just make sure that that creature understands that the king of the dorm is still Heebum, our Han Jae Hee Bum,” Heechul said happily while he picked up one of those sandwiches on the table that Ryeowook made earlier in the morning. And as he bit into it, he couldn’t help but add, “And get one for Ryeowookie too. One like Ddabbong or something; that boy is always so lonely I worry for him. Get him one too to play with, let’s get him one too.”
