We are coming up to my favourite time of celebration and just felt like writing down in a blog post why I enjoy a little date next week so much. Stand round the fire, and consider that there is more to this world than the day to day. Whatever the religious belief, I think Bonfire night is a far more (spiritual?) time than well a lot. Because you can stand by the fire, out in nature and come together. Let the fire burn, let the light come to the darkness.

I like this bit best - i often find the same sort of feeling when at the beach...i wonder if it's an outdorsy nature thing?

My vicar, preached a sermon last week, where he spoke about harvest. But picked up something interesting from it. What he said was that since people have lost there connection to the land they have also lost there religious belief, and he believes that's because God calls from the land. A fire, the sound of the sea, the act of planting a crop and watching it grow, all should show us a little bit of god, he made it this is him... not sure I totally agree with him. but does strike me that religious belief (of all kinds) does seem to be damaged by leaving the land. THe whole thing with the sea is part of that i think.. I go to the beach, i close my eyes, I hear God... He made it, He is there....

Yes when at the beach and listening to the sea i just kinda think wow. what a tiny speck in the world i am, everyone is and how much more there is out there and how amazing it all is and how everything works - is just amazing and it really *is* just like...wow. Kinda takes you to another place another place in my mind at least. There is so much more out there, there is so much more to life than the every day.
