Belated Sectus and Prophecy Snarry thank-yous

Aug 18, 2007 08:15

I'm not the organised person who reviews things, okay? So I'll just say that both Sectus and Prophecy were most enjoyable; I think I've already said that, and I appreciate all the efforts of those who worked to make them so successful.

However, I do want to thank those people who for both cons organised a Snarry get-together - then created/commissioned the most incredible array of goodies for those of us who just said, 'Yes, I'd like to come,' and rolled up.

I never expected such generosity or imagination (or determination, either).

Both evenings were full of noise and happy encounters with people who'd only been names to me before, however often we'd talked on LJ, and new people, too, whom I'm glad to have met, as well as all the community fun of raffles and quizzes and just talk (and, er, too much to drink - London, or eat - Toronto).

So now I have delightful souvenirs like a set of Snarry badges made from various pieces of Snarry art, a Snarry key ring (lives on my handbag, okay? - the Sectus one is on my computer bag), handmade bookmarks (books, too!), game cards, stickers, and a Harry Potter DH book box (and coffee, and a mysterious substance for polishing my broom, and a lemon sherbet, and ...). I have bracelets, gifts from individuals like snapetoy and dementordelta, who went to such trouble to arrange what they thought was a tactfully obscure inscription, and a double-sided Slytherin pendant (which I'm wearing now) from valis2, whom I identify by her toy squid and her height.

I also have little bottles of Veritaserum and Skelegro. I shall be leaving them with my hostess, alas, on account I'm not sure what Customs will say when I get home if I have to reply, 'Yes, officer,' to the question, 'Did anyone give you anything to bring in your baggage (and you don't know what it is)?' - also, one leaks. But her son will enjoy them, and so will she.

The principal organisers were (if I have it right) Rachel (username not known) and aliciamasters of WTP, but I have no idea of the names of the many people who contributed and helped put gift sets together, including transporting them long distances. I can't identify all the artists whose work was reproduced, either.

But thank you, to all of you, for giving me two wonderful events. And thanks to everyone who was there. I was overwhelmed by the sense of shared love and happiness that doesn't really come my way, ordinarily.

I also want to thank nimori for the Snarry art she drew on my Prophecy badge, and for the drawing of Harry which she gave me in a session in the bar at the Toronto Sheraton. When I get home I'll scan and post that, so you can all appreciate it with me.

Such a pity it costs so much to get out of Australia! I don't think I can do this every year. But there will be a next time, I believe. See you all then.
