Philly help!~

Jan 11, 2008 10:56

I need some help. I have a friend who is coming down to Philly next weekend and I'm supposed to meet up with him and hang out for a bit. The only problem is, ask me what to do in Baltimore and I can tell you... ask me what to do in Philly and I've got nothing. So, those of you that live near Philly, or have been there, could you give me some ( Read more... )

visit, philly

Go get a cheesesteak. :p
Do the Rocky run with them.
Walk the streets and hum Springsteen's Philidelphia song. :p

Don't forget your Eagles sweatshirt and matching sweatpants with mysterious cheesesteak oil stains!

I'm curious...what's wrong with South Street Diner?

oh man, the last couple times i have been there, the food was seriously sub par, and my friends and i had to abandon our after dinner plans to spend quality time with our toilets and a bottle of pepto bismal. it used to be really good, but i think the food has really gone down in quality, as has the service.

What kinda things were you looking to do? Just hang out? Or actually spend time doing stuff. If you're into medical freaky-things, check out the Mutter Museum http://www.collphyphil.org/mutter.asp
And like was said before, South Street is a cool place to hang out.

Probably more just hanging out. And that place looks really cool. I'm totally going to have to go sometime even if I don't go next weekend. (It's really kinda sad that I've lived in PA my entire life and know less about the cities in it than I do the ones in MD)

Ladymacbeth6 said just about everything I wanted to.

I'm just adding tiny notes now...
On South Street, all that stuff is good and there is also Moaz (which is my favorite falafel place in the world) and a Haagen Daaz thats open super late. Theres a cute tattoo place where me & my friends go but I'm sure that's not of interest...

Too bad its late in the month though. I would have seriously recommended First Friday, because all the Old City art galleries (and more!) are open to the public (freeee!) and theres cute street sellers and performers, and free snacks (and wine sometimes!) and general walking around fun. 2nd street is just really cute in general.

Also, don't waste time in Chinatown since its tiny and kinda lame.
Reading Terminal is indeed AWESOME. As well as the Franklin Institute, Art Museum, and all that stuff.

Hmmmm, I'll have to check some of those places out that ladymcBeth pointed out when I get the time. Been living across and up the river from Philly for almost two years and I really haven't made a true foray into the city. Other than a visit to a really dumpy section about a year ago for some volunteer work I helped out on (and still do to this day, the location changes though), Oxford Valley Mall, the few times I worked crowd control at Lincoln Financial Field (I will never ever do that again), and the trips to Philly International that's been it.

What can I say? Being a transplat to the East Coast I'm still learning my way around. Plus I don't feel like getting shot. :P

Well there's always that big Dave and Buster's I still need to visit. **lol**

Shoot, if this was the Puget Sound region I could easily point you some directions to make your head spin. And to add insult to injury I'd get some friends to add more interest spots. :P
