Since Nelson Mandela I see nothing surprising in a Black president of a country with huge White population. Though I preferred somebody with true American heritage, somebody from the tribes of native inhabitants of America. In that case I would be really glad and surprised.

I don't think it's bad that Obama isn't a "true" American. On the contrary, a president who has seen and lived in parts of the world that are entirely different from his country is excactly what the US needs.

But...I have to admit that I don't think he will bring change to the situation of the US as fast as many people think.

In fact US ruling style can be compared with the times of civil war in Roman Republic. "Candidates" could make fierce battles with each other but they never had idea to betray general Roman interests.

In our case it means that taxation policy may be changed, Iraq may be abandoned... but USA will continue to dictate their will to the world whatever of its tactical form.

In the South, at least, a significant number of people both black and white have Native American ancestry. Even I, with about as pale a face possible and red hair, am 1/16 Alabama-Coushatta. My wife is 1/8 Native American. Several of our friends are also part Native American.

You'd think with all this Native American blood running around, someone would do something to help the tribes.
