My parents have apparently decided the next five years of my life for me.

They tell me I'm going to UC and I'm living in the two family that we own that is literally five houses away from the house I grew up in

You are NOT doing what they plan. Tell them this. Tell them your dreams. I'm going on three college visits to Michigan this Spring Break, and I'm TOTALLY packing you up with me. Seriously. I'm so sorry, this was seriously heart breaking to read. They need some serious help. Don't back down. I know it's hard, but fight the urge to break down. Ignore it and still look at the schools you dream about. They can't stop you from applying. I have faith that you will come out on top because, let's face it Alice Flanders, you always do. I love you and I miss you and I HAVE TO SEE YOU!

I am so sorry that you are facing this. College is a daunting and worrisome process already, and this must make everything bitter and scary. I don't know whether I'm going to get everything I hoped for out of college, but I'm definitely going to try. I think that you should apply to the schools that you dream about with or without your parents knowledge, and go for scholarships at other schools that are far away. You will get out of Cincinnati because you are bright and adventurous and smart. I love you Alice. Your parents must also love you enough to let you go and pursue your own dreams. You can call me if you ever have any questions about the college process. I'm certainly not an an expert, but I've just done all of the apps, and I wish that I would have asked someone to sketch the process out for me before I began.

Hey I know we haven't talked in a while and I never even read LJ anymore but randomly checked today cause it was a blue moon. Anyway, fuck that.
