sometimes i'd like to listen to some of my favorite music when i read a good book. i'm sure people do this all the time. but the problem is, if i really like the book, it's in the forefront of my mind, of course. i'm trying to absorb the words and think abstractly about their meaning. however, that part of my brain is also devouring the music

i do the same thing when i'm riding on the metro.. especially in the book i'm reading now. my mind sort of gets itself in some sort of schism--should i be concentrating on the music playing or looking deeply into that paragraph that Neil Gaiman just wrote? it fucks with me a lot. most of the time i try to read without music
