Saving the World

I thought about writing this entry last night, but couldn't quite put my finger on exactly what I'd say. It's the end of an era; characters that we've known and loved for years have now drifted into NPC space. The current shard of Farshores carries on in its own little bubble, after about four years of play time.

The finale was brilliant. The death of two prominent characters at the brief was shocking - though, as someone pointed out (sadly can't remember who to give credit), this meant it began as the previous end-of-world finale began, with two characters dead. The moment with Ember and Rabbit afterwards was very intense.

Other highlights for me include the big battle with the Empress's Hand, which was very satisfying; team Ogre and the misunderstanding; Ember's decision to resurrect the Avatar of Balance, use of resources be damned, because that's what she felt was right; finally getting to give Tweedledum and Tweedledee some pain; and, of course, the end fight with our soulkills. Seeing the bodies of the people whose souls were being used was quite emotional, too, as it reminded Ember that what she was doing was something actually pretty horrific.

I do like those big fights. Running around lots and ducking and dodging (sometimes more successfully than others). While I've loved playing Ember and I think it was a really apt chaos downgrade, I must admit I'm looking forward to being three hits per again, just to stay up a little longer! It's been a while since I've played a character who gets more actively involved, too, so I'm also looking forward to that in New Farshores.

I keep coming back to the epilogues and thinking about where Ember would have gone. As the Avatar of Light she'd have stopped adventuring, and probably developed quite close friendships with the other avatars, Balance and Chaos in particular. I like to think Chaos would always greet her by rubbing her head and making squeaky noises (so bald!). She'd probably have stopped wearing her wig too.

I like to think she'd have still visited the orphanages and helped out there when she could, and kept up a good relationship with the Barrow Knights. Everbright Grove would probably have been her home, but she'd have made regular pilgrimages and travels, and helped people out if she encountered them. Sister would remain the love of her life, and with her soul destroyed (and being no longer human) she'd be contentedly alone.

Overall, it's been a really great time. I am going to gently encourage folk who are that way inclined to expand on their own epilogues, because I'd love to read them. Another big thank you to the refs for the world, and I can't wait to see what new farshores brings.
