so, the MPR classical music host just said that Fanfare for the Common Man was the inspiration for We Will Rock You, by "Kiss."  Not only do I fail to see the resemblance, but come on, who doesn't know that's Queen?  Really?  These people know the most random, obscure minutiae about obsolete musicians and composers, but one of the most popular rock ( Read more... )

Ha, funny, I'm reading a book that just mentioned the Copland-Queen connection. I do not hear it at all, but if multiple sources are coming up with it... Unless this host was reading the same book.

Those hosts aren't exactly geniuses of musicological discourse. One of them once said Joplin's "Solace" was in 3/4 because it was a rag. What?

Can I just say, I would pay money to hear the kind of stuff you'd be spouting after having to host a week's worth of classical radio station music. I still laugh whenever I remember your description of the DC radio station dedicated to exploring the differences between early- and late-period Vivaldi.
