Each year our district holds one four session swiss team event, with about half the field qualifying for the second day. I only got to the regional for the last two days (having a job can be inconvenient) so this was the only event I got to play. Hi. This is Jo. This is Jo's blog now. On Saturday, the first day of the two-day Regional Swiss, on one hand, I'm in third seat favorable with xx KJ7 xxx Jxxxx and the auction goes 1S-P-1N*(semi-forcing)-2C, X-P-P-P. Double showed shortness and extra values. I was happy passing because they were red, and if they made it, it would only be minus 180, and maybe they would go down a lot. What fun! Partner led a high spade, dummy tracked Qxx 10xx KQxxx 10x. Pard cashed a second high spade, led a third for me to ruff, and I played heart jack for the exciting surround play, should partner hold A98x of hearts. My jack of hearts was covered by a slow queen, and, sure enough, back came the 9 of hearts, ducked, and a low heart, covered by the 10 and my triumphant King of hearts. Unfortunately, my triumph was short-lived as declarer ruffed. We scored the Ace of diamonds for plus 200 and win two. My partner had AKxxx A98xx Axx Void. 4H can be made, but in fact they were in a partscore at the other table and made only 9 tricks. My play in ( ... )
