Question for the masses

How do you copyright or protect a recipe?

This weekend I made an addition to something I made and it tasted SO GOOD.

I thought about it and it actually might be marketable. Probably not, but eh, nice to dream.

So how do I protect myself from my idea being stolen?

*reaches into your brain and steals your recipe*

Oh, too late.

PS. To be serious, I honestly don't know.

Not a lawyer here, but I think you're looking for a patent ( ... )

Thank you. I was really dense on the subject. This helped a lot. :)

Mere listings of ingredients as in recipes, formulas, compounds or prescriptions are not subject to copyright protection. However, where a recipe or formula is accompanied by substantial literary expression in the form of an explanation or directions, or when there is a combination of recipes, as in a cookbook, there may be a basis for copyright protection ( ... )

Ooo! Now THAT was VERY helpful! Now I just have to decide whether my idea is worth $35

Cover your head in tin foil so no-one can psychically steal your idea?
