English... German...and sorta German

Since my last entry kind of became pointless after I found my iPod again (the assumed loss of which was the reason for my frustrated rant) I've decided I will now update with a little bit of an experiment ( Read more... )

Yeah, any free translator is only going to translate word-for-word because it can't reference a dictionary for grammar and sentence structure. They're basically created so that someone can get the gist of what's being said.

I think freetranslation.com has an option where you can pay for a real person to translate.

Yeah, I actually knew full well that the free translator would "screw it up" that way. I know it can't possibly be any better than that because that would require really, really complicated, high-level, expensive programming. Or a person.

It was just funny to me to read it, because it is so off. ;) Like I said, it's like reading an English text that reads as, "The dog ran the street along because it a bone catch wanted" :D which is what you would get if you translated the German sentence word-for-word in the same structure. ;)

Ah, well I just felt the need to say so because you seemed so shocked by it. ;D

Heheh, well, not really shocked by the poor translation; more like, "WTF?! Why would anyone even use these sites? They're clearly useless."

I guess you can get the gist of what's being said, though.
Next time I'll experiment with this, I'll make a German entry and use a website to translate that into English. So then y'all can guess what I was trying to say. :P

Well... it's not completely unintelligible, though I'm not entirely sure that I'd be able to follow most of it without already knowing what it was supposed to say. I think "Sind nicht wir klug" may be my favorite.

Hehe, I just thought it was entertaining and amusing. Not that I expected these free translators to be any good; I know how they work.

I think "Sind nicht wir klug" may be my favorite.

Hee hee. I also liked the "Postgeburtstags-Cocktail" ;D
