Ichigo... *goes off to find a handkerchief to hold to her nose*

LJ should make it an official policy that large images, or a large number of images, must be put behind cuts. Huh.

Why You Need Beta ReadersDespite that, I have my own reasons why I don't look for beta readers. (That might change, but ( Read more... )

I can very much relate to #1. The ownership in regards to ideas, development, and plot including word choice, proper grammar and spelling is very important in my writing process. I've told that I'm a classic Type A writer.

It's like, those things have to belong entirely to us, you know? (although I suspect my possessive streak also comes into play here)

I nosebleeded over that image earlier XDXDXD

I totally agree with you regarding beta readers. Personally I've never really used them. For the most part, I'm decent enough at grammar and spelling to get away with it. I think it's the Type A in me speaking XD

The advantage of having a main character who's a young man instead of a boy, and a sexy young man too (LOL).

I've always thought dictionaries, online and offline, are there so that we can use them. Also, it's our stories, and have to reflect us. IMO, anyway,

I'm VERY much the same way. In fact, I'm having a problem right now with something that's bothering me regarding my writing.

My main beta is a wonderful person who mainly watches out for my grammar, and she always gets my muse going by asking questions and being a great sounding board for me to bounce ideas off of. ^^ But I"m with you about ideas being your own and being possessive of them.

Ah yes, grammar. Mine sometimes slips. -_-

Bouncing off ideas sounds great - I don't think I do it often, or have ever done it at all. The possessive factor again (sigh).

*laughs* Much to my distress, mine slips alot. ^^

Believe me, I understand. One of the reasons I use who I use as a beta is because she's an artist and doesn't write (believe me, I've tried to get her to write because she's really good, but she doesn't believe me) so as far as my ideas go, for the most part, they're safe unless she wants to draw them (which I'm never against).

I have made the mistake, though, of showing a work in progress to someone, and an idea I'd been working on for a good six months was stolen. *sigh* I'll never do that again.

I'm not particularly afraid that my beta will snatch my idea and run away with it - if I use a beta it'd be someone I trust - but I am the kind of person who doesn't like leaking out her ideas before they're completely materialized. I'd like to spring a surprise on the readers, "Hey, this is my story, and these are my ideas! Like 'em? Er, no? Well, they're still mine."
(As you can see I have issues regarding ownership...)

gitu aja sih pendapat gue.

Betul, tapi saya punya kecenderungan posesis terhadap suami apapun milik saya. Besides, siapa ya yang bisa diminta nge-beta cerita wuxia? chibishun gitu?

Emang, tapi malu ah nyari beta reader di situ. --> bermasalah dengan possessiveness and reticence
