Summary: A first meeting.
AN/Disclaimer: Not beta'd, not mine.
It's an odd situation, love. The right people in the right place at the right time. All the chemicals and emotions that must happen in the right order or not even the biggest spark can light the flame. But when the two people are in the right place at the right time and everything that needs to happen happens, well then, it is absolutely magical.
The castle was silent, only the wind whispering against the walls giving any hint that there was life. In the hall outside the kitchens another voice joined the wind.
"Hey nonny nonny, hey nonny nonny," a woman hummed to herself as she walked slowly away from her work. A small yawn escaped from between her lips and she stretched tiredly. It had been a long day. The woman jumped slightly as the wind whistled past a window, shaking it slightly. Maybe she should have taken Morgana up on staying the night, the woman thought. She suddenly did not want to spend the night alone in a house that held too many memories, both good and bad. Shaking her head, the woman quietly opened the door in front of her.
The air was chilly and the woman cursed herself as she shut the door for leaving her cloak at home. She stepped out into the main courtyard and down the steps. The cold soaked quickly through the bottoms of her shoes and she made a note to stop wearing shoes meant for summer in the fall.
A noise cause the woman to look up suddenly. Sudden harsh beats on the cobblestone. Someone was coming. A horse came into view and the woman quickly bowed her head, sinking into a curtsy.
"I didn't expect anyone to share in my madness tonight," a man said. The girl raised her head and stopped. Before her was probably the handsomest man she had ever seen. His hair was golden and he sat tall on his horse. A wide smile graced his face, making his eyes crinkle in a way that made them shine with an inner light.
"Pardon me?" she asked when she figured out how to make her mouth work again. She stepped forward to take his horse's reins, but he was already on the ground and bowing.
"This is the oddest weather and it is rather late, my lady." His voice was deep and clear.
"Oh, well I had some work to finish and I was just heading home," she explained and curtsied again. "And I am no lady, my lord. Just a maid."
The man looked her over and smiled again. "Every woman is a lady, madam, or at least that is what my mother taught me. Especially one so pretty as you." The woman blushed. Hurriedly she stuck out a hand.
"I'm Gwen," she said. The man took her hand and kissed it lightly.
"I'm Leon, at your service."
