a stroke of genius

i just had what seems like such a great idea for a wedding thing to do that i bet in reality it would end up being lame. instead of a standard guestbook, which i never quite understood the point of having people just sign their name in a book, why not have your hosts/esses stand there with a polaroid camera and take pictures of everyone coming in ( Read more... )

Actually Lauren and I both think that is a pretty great idea. Not only would it be perfect for situations like you mention, but it would give the person manning the guest book (at many weddings anyway there seems to be someone there) something to do.

Then, instead of a guestbook (or a big poster thinger like we got) you would have a pre-made photo album of the wedding! That would be sweet....you could even do it with a laptop and a decent camera and have them burnt to a DVD when ur done.

If it was put in the typical place of a guestbook, that is, the first thing guests encounter upon entering, there could be traffic problems with the rush of guests in the last five minutes. You'd almost need to have the usher ush each group of guests to the person taking Polaroids, and then ush them to their seats. The Polaroids could be available for signing, etc., on a table at the reception.

just remove the "guest book" and have latecomers come to do it during the reception! it's not perfect, just something fun to do that seems functional; i still think it's better than a gold-embossed guest book with just a list of names. and it's not like you need their addresses anymore since they obviously got the invitations!

My cousin did that at her wedding two weeks ago. They had someone taking pictures as people walked in, and then we put it in the album and signed next to it. I think the album was made for it- there were spots for the polaroids and a place to sign next to it.

I've also been to a wedding where they did that! They had a scrapbook made with a picture slot and a space to sign your message next to it. They did it at the reception as well, so there wasn't a huge back up. What a great idea!

I got a photo book made of our engagement pictures and people are signing around them. That way, we'll look through the book again as opposed to just a bunch of names. 41 days and I'll let you know how that idea works. :)

Awesome!!! And congrats, I don't think I ever got to tell you that when I first heard. How exciting. You should see if you can post your pictures somewhere for us to see.
