I get that a few hundred dollars is not a large sum of money compared to the cost of a house. However, it IS a lot of money when compared to pretty much everything else that I do. Everyone else acts like it is Monopoly money! I guess, to them at least, it is ( Read more... )

So I hate to say this, but if scrounging up a few hundred dollars unexpectedly is a problem, then you should really think carefully before buying a house. Owning a home is costly, and it's not just the mortgage ( ... )

The federal government is going to cut me an $8000 check after closing since I am a first time home buyer.

HOA does siding and painting and all exterior stuff. New kitchen, new plumbing, new carpet, new water heater, new HVAC. :P

I get that there are a lot of different ways that this could totally screw up my life and bite me in the ass. But, I spent months deciding that it really was smart to buy a house. I'm not going to go back and question that decision now!

I'm not so much trying to dissuade you as warning you to be careful with the finances. Keep the mortgage low enough that you can still save up for other expenses, because they will happen.
