Being Fat = Neglect

Aug 13, 2010 18:09

No Seattle for me, at least not for 6 months to a year.

Why?

Because apparently being fat means it was ok for my primary care physician (hereafter referred to as Dr. Dingbat) to ignore my health issues for 5 years.

WARNING! Here Begins the TMI:

TMI - You've been Warned )

Dr. Dingbat needs to get a black mark on her record in the form of a letter from you, and if possible, Dr. Wonderful. Shitfuck, that's ridiculous! And PCOS frequently causes weight gain and difficulty in losing weight; if Dr. Dingbat didn't know that, she needs to go back to med school.

Allow me to shake my fist on your behalf. *shakes fist*

Gah. Hopefully, you'll get straightened out soon. Sucks about the move. :(

Dr. Wonderful sent Dr. Dingbat a copy of my lab results along with what I can only guess was an extremely snarky letter stating "I solved your mystery case that you couldn't resolve for over 5 years. Next time, try doing some lab work - or just refer your patients to me. I'll be happy to take care of them ( ... )

Wow. That's incredible. The doctor couldn't do a Pap because you were bleeding so heavily, and wouldn't do a simple CBC?

I'm speechless.

Dr. Dingbat is more than a dingbat. She's criminally negligent.

I think I figured out why my insurance company loves Dr. Dingbat so much.
I mean, why waste money on things like blood tests when it's obvious the problem is the patient being Fatty McFatterson?

Who needs tests when telling the patient to "Lose Weight" costs my insurance company $0?

Just think of how much worse it could have been:

Me: Doctor, I've been stabbed!

Dr. Dingbat: You know, that knife would have missed you if your fat roll wasn't there. Lose 100lbs and you won't have to worry about it.

Me: But I'm bleeding

Dr. Dingbat: Nothing I can do until you lose weight.

Put in a written complaint with some relevant authority. Also, I would find a relevant forum and out Dr Dingbat - even if it's just a fat positive forum, because people should be warned she's not doing her job/incapable/incompetent. She's putting people's lives at risk by ignoring such ongoing severe symptoms.

(By the way, my iron level dropped down to 2 earlier this year - the doctor was wondering how I was even upright! and he gave me a big bottle of 'Clements Liquid' which is an iron drink thing. Worked okay. Still always low, but improving).

I agree. Do put in a complaint. She's practicing poor medicine and it should not go unnoticed.

That's a good idea. I don't want anyone else to go untreated just because this doctor is a whack-a-doodle.

Wow! Your iron level was a 2??!!!??!! I'm exhausted all the time with mine at 7. I'm amazed you were still able to function. I'm so glad your doctor was able to help you improve your iron.

My voice teacher is a large woman. She's had a complicated health history, so yes, there's a a lot of stuff for her doctor to address. But.

She changed doctors, I forget why. He was looking through her medical records that she had transferred to him from her prior physician. He was very concerned. Her last lab tests showed elevated blood glucose level indicating diabetes.

So did the tests from her previous visit.

And the one before that vist.

And the one before THAT one...

Un-huh. She'd had diabetes for a few YEARS and her previous doctor hadn't treated it. Because, you know, she just needed to lose weight.

Arrrrrgh.

That's terrible!

My doctor never even sent me for tests, but her doctor did the tests and then ignored the results for years.

That is just mind blowing! I'm so glad your voice teacher has a new doctor.

Thank you. Luckily the Maxaron Forte is just making me feel a little queasy for a couple of hours after I take it. It's not giving me any other problems.
