Montjuic is really cool! It is this big... fort... thing! With, like, defenses and stuff! "Lex!" I said. "Hold that pose! I need to take your picture in that... defendy-looking-thing!" Hmmm. I can't say I know anything about that fortress in particular, but I'll take a stab at an explanation regardless. IT was built at the top of a hill, and during those centuries? That makes it pretty unlikely that the moat was ever filled. It would have been too logistically impractical, and the defensive bonus marginal, at best. The reason they still dug a ditch was that it was a cheap and easy way to increase the effective height of the walls against infantry assaults.

If you are ever within anything like travel distance of Montjuïc, you should go there. It is huge and formidable. Also they have guns in some of the gun places so that you can see how you could blow up, like, the ENTIRE CITY from there.

That explanation makes sense.

Okay, I may have been a useless travel companion in most respects, but consider this: WHO ELSE WOULD'VE FOUND THAT TREE ROOT THAT LOOKED LIKE MUSCLES? HUH? Or that crack in the sidewalk that looked like a human heart?
Clearly I am the best travel companion the end.
