I don't understand why adopting a kid costs like $25,000, but a person can't sell their baby to the same family for the same or less.

...most of that $25,000.00 goes to the "middle man." The family doing the "selling" would have to opt for a lot less than $25,000.00 so that the "middle man" (usually the government, through its agencies) can get a sizable cut.

(Meanwhile, I know a place in the world where you can get a beautiful, dark-skinned--but, likely, quite intelligent--baby for a lot less (say about $3,000.00 INCLUDING the air fares): Sri Lanka!

Well, right, exactly, but I'm saying, why not cut out the middle man entirely? It's not legal to sell babies, but how is that so different from what adoption agencies do?

Of course foreign babies are going to come in cheaply. I'm talking about American trade here. I want to sell babies.

I want to sell babies

Who's going to make 'em?

Well, okay...I don't really want to sell babies, but I want people to be able to sell their own babies instead of having an agency do it on their behalf. Or really, I just don't want adoption to cost money, I think that's ridiculous.
