::dances around:: Can I hug you? I'm the original poster and I honestly just finished reading it a second time. I totally agree that it's not a full trilogy, though I desperately wish it was. I'm genuinely sorry you felt duped but I'm so happy you liked it!
I'm sure I was just in the mode of "BIGGER!" since I just finished Martin's last Game of Thrones book.
But I tell you what. She writes WAAAAAY better than Martin and didn't jerk me around with characters that didn't matter, story lines that don't come full circle or repetitive dialogue or scene set ups. I'm glad there's a break in Martin's books because I NEED one! (hahaha).
I will certainly read it again. And hope for her to write more, or another book. I just love her style.
I do love her writing style, it's so whimsical and I love how all the items and all the imagery had a story. Because of my career path I was really tickled by the emphasis on how few but also how important material goods were in that time frame.
That material goods thing really struck me too. I don't know if it's because of the age I'm at, or the economy or an overall turn to more respect for the earth and her gifts, but I find myself really fascinated by the WORLD of difference there is between what western society drags around with itself, and what was considered "wealth" in historic times (and what's considered wealth in other countries, even now). It struck me right away in the first section of the book that the Northern tribes had to "raid" to get the supplies they needed to make it through the winter. And that the main character recognized this immediately as not something to guard against, but something to "fix." I was so glad the author continued to explore what it means to "have" and "have not." Very timely to what we're going through now.
I have this book in my Kindle library, but I've never gotten around to reading it and have for a couple years I think. I only picked it up because it was free at the time. I'll have to read it in the future though since it's been given high praises here. Dunno when though since currently I'm in the middle of a steampunk series.
XD I'm sure it will. See my problem is that sometimes I go through highs and lows with books- ie sometimes I seem to have a lot of time and tear through books, and other times, I go slowly and take longer to finish books.
When I start a book in a series I tend to want to continue with the series and since each subsequent book is $10, I probably am best to wait until it's a slow period for reading for me. I don't mind spending $10, but if I'm reading book after book quickly, it easily adds up XD That's why I had to take a break on reading Jodi Picoult books. Same reason.
Yeah, these books are crazy short. I took a week to read the first one, but then plowed through the last two in 3 days. Seriously, total length is something like 900 pages.
Love seeing a post about this wonderful three-part book. :) I agree that it will be hard for other lesbian fiction to beat this one. I'm not even sure anything comes close for me, though I do wish there were similar stories where a girl runs off with her gf/love-interest on an adventure.
Agreed! Especially since this had sort of a old world feel and some magic in it. I wish she'd write more... there's a lot of this story that could be told but she says on her website it took her 10 years to write this, she doesn't really plan on writing more. Bummer.
