Ah, now I understand what this is (my comment on FB asked if your new house was here). I hope the waters do not reach your house!

Yes, we felt lucky to find a house in that area, and there is nothing wrong with the house at all, other than it being 6 feet below sea level.

To the left of that picture is a big, deep water channel called the Delta. It travels from San Francisco to downtown Stockton with many other small bodies of water in between.

The whole thing is a bunch of weirs, dikes, piles of dirt, similar to New Orleans. It's scary to think of the amount of water in this big flat desert if they burst.
