Hey hey everyone! I missed last week because I was at my school's commencement. WORST PART of being a professor is going to commencement multiple times per year. Next time I'm thinking I should get like some bluetooth earbuds to hide behind my hair and listen to some podcasts?! But this week it is student-free around here so life is good.

Hello lovey! I hope you're enjoying the peace and quiet!

I'm working like a crazy person, and it's gorgeous sunny weather with a crisp wind, kinda like our brunch day. And I have to go to an all day learning event tomorrow which is going to be awesome and I am going to pretend I don't have a business for just one day and just be All About Me. My kids are watching Odd Squad which is the fricking BEST. One of them is wearing a bathing suit because why not. It's good to be 8.

This has been a dull as dishwater from Princess George. You're welcome.

Aw, that's so nice! I am seriously kinda pissed we can't go for brunch again. It's been a few months, time to catch up, you know? And NO THERE'S A CONTINENT IN THE WAY.

Hi hi!

It's been kind of a crazy week. Threw a family party, went pretty well. Blackhawks are taking me on an emotional rollercoaster. Dealing with the fallout of a third of my department getting laid off last week, and things are fairly uncertain still but, I don't know. I'm dealing.

Also, just found out today that my SIL is getting married--in three weeks. We are ditching another wedding (whoops, but this is immediate family) to fly out to San Franscisco (Andie, I will wave at you!) for 48 hours for the ceremony. So that's going to be insane.

I need to buy a new dress--what do you think of these? It's going to be a small, casual wedding at a house and with the ceremony on the beach.

I vote Personal Essayist. It will show up well in photos and it's adorable. Or the silver one, especially if you are in love with the idea of silver (I would be, screw the photos). I think the blue/aqua striped one might look kind of dated in future decades, and black is a bit much for a beachy wedding in June.

Sorry about the layoffs, that's stressful as hell even when you keep your job. (More so when you lose it, usually...but still.)

These are such great points. This is why I need help making fashion decisions! I do love the idea of the silver, now I just need to figure out if I love it enough to spend $100 more on it.

Oooh it will be nice to know you are close even if I can't see you! I assume you will be with family but of course you are always welcome to crash at my place and let me feed you!! 48 hours sounds like a wild ride...

I vote 3 or 4!!

Hi all. This past weekend I went to my 20th college reunion, which also included a trip to Lexington, MA (where I and my best friend from college stayed with our other best friend from college). Sat through nearly an hour of boring speeches to hear Lin-Manuel Miranda give the commencement address. He was unsurprisingly excellent.

It was nice seeing many of my former classmates--my frosh hall had its typically strong turnout, and the weather was great. I even got a bit red but no burn (yet).

However, the highlight of the weekend may have been seeing a llama out for a morning walk.

I loved your picture of the llama out for its walk.

Glad the reunion was nice too!! Did you run into anyone who did not turn out at all like what you thought they would?

If the Ducks win on Saturday I will be rooting for them in the next round!

As a matter of fact, yes--there was a guy named Zeke who lived on my floor who I don't think had been at the last couple reunions. It was a real surprise to see him. He's now a doctor, married to another doctor, with two kids. He was kind of a goof at 18--cute but goofy--and is honestly the last person I'd think to become a doctor.

And he has not aged at all. I mean, a few gray hairs but his face is exactly the same.

Thank you re: the Ducks!

whoa that's so cool! It's nice to have someone be way more successful than you would ever expect! Though, especially with the no-aging thing, it kind of sounds like he's made some sort of evil-pact to maintain this sort of success.

Hello!

I hope everyone is doing well! My internet was out for 14 terrifying hours yesterday/this morning, but thankfully it is all fixed now, though I am still without cell service and that will probably take a while to fix (everything got shorted out during a thunderstorm last night).

This week the baby all of a sudden started smiling a lot - but as soon as you try to take a picture, he really focuses on the camera and gets serious, so I don't have a whole lot of evidence of this. He's also started trying to suck on his whole fist - not the thumb, not just a couple fingers, the whole thing. Tomorrow he is going to get some vaccines! You're welcome rest of society. We are happy to add to your herd immunity.

I'm in the middle of season 4 of Mad Men now and continuing to hate many many characters.

My in-laws arrive in two days! Also, my husband is considering hiring his kind of terrible cousin to be one of his workers this summer and I think it's not a great idea, but I am trying to not get too involved in that.

So happy you have internet again. And haha yay for vaccinations.

And yikes about your husband's cousin, but hopefully it isn't a huge disaster?

(I'll be honest, I'm glad we're doing the vaccines, but also I am kind of terrified, because I know its rare, but I really hope there are no complications, but there won't be, I'm sure there won't be, but it's a little scary because now there are all the crackpots saying how their kids had those rare reactions…)

And yeah, I really really hope it isn't a huge disaster if his cousin does work here. It's just weird mixing family with work, and I tried to frame that to Patrick today - like, would he feel comfortable giving his cousin negative feedback? (because I guarantee that he'd have to at some point). But Patrick thinks it would be a good environment for him, he's a young kid, just graduating from high school, but he hasn't had a lot of structure in his life and so is kind of rude and lazy.

Yeah, mixing family with work is probably not a great idea? Yikes, hopefully he grows up a bit and isn't so awful by the end of the summer.
