Hey y'all! Summer semester started this week, which in my job as a professor I should get used to but never, ever do. I also jumped on the local basketball team bandwagon just in time for them to win the NBA finals. Yay sports! The rest of my time this week has been preparing food a bridal shower. She's one of my oldest friends but holy crap did she invite a lot of people to this thing.
YAY ICELAND! I think I missed some of your posts about the trip, so forgive me if you've already talked about this, but what was the icelandic food like?
Surprisingly good! A lot of fish and other things from the sea, and a lot of lamb and horse because it seems like the entire island is farms with herds of those two.
Boyfriend tried shark with Icelandic aquavit and made some faces but decided against sampling whale or puffin 'cause they're endangered and not hunted "sustainably," whatever that might mean. (Usually he's a major food tourist, but not heartlessly so.) I most just had a lot of fish and veggies.
I'm glad boyfriend didn't try puffin! Though I didn't realize they were endangered. And now I'm really curious what whale tastes like. I bet the fish was fantastic
Hello! I am here, possibly momentarily. Nothing much is new. A lot of people are having babies, or trying to. I am doing neither. Looking forward to Inside Out this weekend, or whenever I wind up seeing it (sooner rather than later, I hope).
And I have been writing some particularly insane fandom RPF over on tumblr, at the behest of saucydiva, who was apparently quite drunk when she prompted it. I should go finish that.
I am home early because I have had very little to do at work this week and have had to dip into my sick time and floating holiday time to make my necessary hours. I hope this changes soon, in a positive fashion.
All I have left now sports-wise is baseball, with smatterings of women's World Cup, golf, and Wimbledon. And with the way the Padres are playing, baseball isn't quite near the top of the list of things to watch on TV. I need to become a better binge watcher.
Also, so angry about Alexander Hamilton being taken off the $10 bill. My career goal at one time was to be Secretary of the Treasury, until I realized that while I like money, I don't really understand it.
Harriet Tubman would be great on the $20, also agree with ditching Grant for Eleanor.
Oh Grover Cleveland…there is no reason for him to be on money. Also he married his good friend's daughter, who he had sent a baby carriage to when she was born. that's freaking creepy. Now that you mention TR, I'm surprised he's not on money already.
Also, the 'large denominations of US currency' wikipedia page is definitely my favorite wikipedia page. McKinley on the $500?? Madison on the $5,000? Salmon Chase on the $10,000? And the back art for the $10,000 is the embarking of the Pilgrims.
I haven't done a lot this week…mostly just hung out with the summer staff who are in training right now. One of them had the gall to ask me the other day why camp doesn't just get another router to make the internet better and it was all I could do to not tell her that it was her (and her 100 coworkers) fault and they were stealing my internet and how dare they. I did not say that, but I thought it. Youths.
I am going to a 1 year old's birthday party tomorrow - I got her "Dragons love Tacos" as a bday gift and it may be my new favorite children's book. This 1 year old loves the maple baby and always tries to grab his face.
Also I am hoping to buy a grill. And I need to get together with ballroom_pink while she is in the area! We are trying to work something out

I would ditch Grant and replace him on the $50 with Eleanor Roosevelt.
I'd also put Benjamin Franklin on the quarter.
Also, Grover Cleveland on the $1,000? Let's replace him with Teddy Roosevelt. Sorry, Grover.
