this is so reminiscent of my first christmas here. alone. nothing to do. sianz. i hate being poor.

my student wrote this:

"... the United States was a country built by immigrants, thus it does is best to try and help those coming into this country." [sic]

the same can be said for our little island.

a phd holder said this to me:

"That place [serangoon gardens] is a quaint neighbourhood and the presence of foreign workers would mar the landscape."

if such views are representative of the educated in singapore, then i think there is no hope for our society.

(i mean... i only expect such statements from nancy!)
