End of the Year Quiz 2014!
Okay, I know I haven't posted on lj in nearly a year but I can't not do this quiz. Apparently my paid subscription expired or something because 90% of my icons disappeared... and they rearranged everything at some point cause this posting page thingy looks weird. Also everything is in French for some reason??? Anyway.
I've been doing this pretty regularly now, so you can watch me evolve: 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013.
1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?
went by a handle other than "lesmisloony" online, marched in a protest, scheduled my own doctor/dentist appointments, filed my own taxes, evicted a roommate
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
looks like I didn't make resolutions for last year but that's okay, these quizzes prove that I never really have...
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
not super close but like... all the people i went to high school with seem to have reproduced for some reason
4. Did anyone close to you die?
only my poor gerbil baby Siddie (Sidonie), but I pulled myself together and got Ikki to replace her in both my and Immy's hearts
5. What countries did you visit?
I was reunited with Paris for one brief, beautiful week!
6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
I desperately want to start my real NC life with a car and a short drive to see my mom and, someday, a house in the woods and a pet pig named Wilbur
7. What dates from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I'm so bad at dates? I couldn't even tell you when MORLC was at this point except to say "late September"
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
the fact that I was able to do that whole Paris trip without touching my savings (and that Flo and Mikele remembered me omg), also my savings in general which are finally up to $2500! I need 10K for my downpayment on my house in the woods which is projected for 2016
9. What was your biggest failure?
Letting myself be guilted into accepting a roommate who didn't meet all my requirements...
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
well this damn pinched nerve happened in August and I haven't had feeling in three fingertips ever since...
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Definitely my beautiful accordion.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
the Ferguson protestors... oh you mean in my personal life? definitely the nice host fam for housing me and Miranda during my whirlwind return to Paris
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Every roommate who lived with me throughout the course of the year except one blessed little soul, also, white people in general. Why does the KKK still exist????
14. Where did most of your money go?
Keeping last year's answer: my landlord and the student loan companies. But I did drop about a thousand dollars on plane tickets and MORLC tickets, plus I got a new laptop for the first time in my life
15. What were you really, really, really excited about?
getting to return to Paris obviously. But also, I've spent most of the year in anticipation of moving to my house in the woods and finally living alone
16. What song will always remind you of 2014?
Hm, it's gotta be "dont put dirt on my grave just yet"....
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) Happier or sadder? That's a good question. Probably I'm in the exact same place tbh, but with all the racist bullshit that's been going down in America lately I'm definitely a lot angrier
b) Bigger or smaller? I'm gonna guess about the same again
c) Richer or poorer? technically about the same, but rent did go up a LOT in September. On the other hand, I have double the savings thanks to being stingy and never buying myself a decent amount of groceries
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Um... I wish I was better about writing my two French families
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
trying to reframe situations to keep myself from making difficult decisions or to keep myself from hurting feelings. I catch myself trying to let other people take charge of things that I think are becoming uncomfortable so that the blame for the outcome won't be on me and I'll look like the good guy, when really I need to step up and get comfortable with standing up for myself and protecting myself more often, even if it means making people like me less
20. How did you spend Christmas?
the family came over and other than all the normal Christmas stuff (and my mom getting a lil tortoiseshell bb kitten), my cool Nashville aunt talked a group of us into bypassing a bunch of scary "no trespassing" signs and exploring this old abandoned plantation that's a five minute walk from my house which i NEVER dared to go near my whole life bc it's very far back from the road and the landowners are kinda trigger-happy... but we explored it this year and it was REALLY FUN
21. How many one-night stands?
zero again and I just don't care. I don't care about sex. I want a house in the woods
22. Did you fall in love in 2014?
i fucking love my own company. i love being alone in the apartment so i can make smart-ass remarks at whatever tv show im marathoning and then just laugh and appreciate my hilariousness.
23. What was your favourite TV programme?
KORRA was this year's winner for OBVIOUS REASONS but honorable mention must go to Girl Meets World for being a literal dream come true
24. How will you see in the New Year?
German Lara wants us to try to do the Times Square thing. Pray for us.
25. Do you hate / dislike anyone now that you didn't hate / dislike this time last year?

26. What was the best book you read?
the only book I read this year was the last one in the final Kushiel trilogy, Naamah's whatever. I loved it, but I've learned that I'm too intense about reading, and when I'm in a book I can't be anywhere else until the book is over... it literally devours my thoughts and I become USELESS at my job...
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
This is the year when I got homesick enough that I started listening to Dolly Parton and the Nashville soundtracks. And I bought a pair of cowboy boots. And my accent has gotten so much stronger.

a new laptop, a comfy chair, my accordion, the entire MORLC trip, a dramatic reunion with Florent Mothe

was Captain America 2 this year? If so, THAT. If not, omg I just saw the Quvenzhané Wallis version of Annie today and it was PERFECTION

I made a cake and wore a big "birthday princess" ribbon on my head to work
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
for my parents to back me up in the struggle against racism and police brutality

I literally can't even look at anything that isn't hot pink anymore. What is wrong with me

essentially chanting "a house in the woods and a pet pig named wilbur" to myself a hundred times a week

oh man this was the year that I got even gayer and I'm gonna blame Diane Dassigny even though she is only one of many

Capitalism is a modern social construct and isn't the only way or even the default way and it should be abolished

Also the next day when he kept saying "I'm so glad you could come. I'm so glad"

omg I got dRUNK at the Bercy livestream to the point where I don't really remember things that happened in the second showing, and I also got drunk a couple weeks ago at the neighbors' (on wine both times), but the only other time I had booze that I recall off the top of my head was the company holiday party

well when MORLC ended I wept for like four solid hours, Toulouse-style

other than rent and other bills, the whole MORLC trip was about $1000, my chair was $200, my accordion was about $400, and my laptop was about $700 iirc... so that much

I would have stayed out at the stage door that Thursday night and just waited it out, even if I was exhausted and jetlagged
58. What are your plans for 2015?
find someone to sublet me out or take over my lease for 2015, get back to NC, find a job 1-2 hours away from my parents' house, find an apartment, start saving up for the house in the woods and the pet pig named wilbur
