This was so heartbreakingly true. Your select imagery is really very powerful, and packs a tear-inducing punch. Incredibly well written -- it seems every scene was executed perfectly. I would not be surprised if this was exactly as their relationship concluded.

I love how he retreats to a book, to Potions, in order to remove himself and yet gain the strength he needs. The oppositions that present themselves throughout the fic (Lily's initial apology compared to his later ones, his changing thoughts about Hogwarts, the symbolism of the lily, etc) all contribute to making it so eloquent.

I could go on, I feel. This should be a fic that goes down in the fandom books as classic. I would not be surprised to see large discussions analyzing this ^_^

Lovely! I like the POV and the use of present tense. Clever use of 'day before' scenarios and I like how you mixed up the time-line.
