Short version of the last month or so: creepy eviction of the bedbugs plaguing our building; learning bookbinding and creating things for friends; going to NY with Eric, Cortney and Sharon; E & I renting a car and taking an impromptu, somewhat stupid trip to Ikea New Haven on its opening weekend; winning a Bertucci's lunch for 10 the only time I've ( Read more... )

Thanks Angela! I hope you'll be joining the crafts group too.

How are you feeling from your surgery?

Of course I will!

RE: Gums - I feel a bit like Frankenstein's monster, but it seems to be going ok. The "bandaids" (this stuff that looks and feels like bubblegum) are still on... so I can only hope that I'm healing ok under there!

I rode past you yesterday at the corner of longwood and the jayway. I'd have said hello but I was on my bike! You looked about as happy as I felt to be going into work...

I am no fan of that corner. Too easy to get run over! We should go to lunch sometime. Which hospital do you work at again?

That sounds horrible! I'm dreading getting my wisdom teeth out because I have a phobia about putting cotton in my mouth. Seriously, I can't think about it without gagging. Annnnyway . . .

Simmons is trying to talk me into taking a few Social Work grad classes instead of Undergrad psych (which would be free as an alum). Seems I can't get away from that place no matter how hard I try!

wow, lisa, this is a great post, truly. And though I know that much of live journal becomes a contrived projection of what we possibly want others to see (or not see, as the case may be), this feels honest and inspiring. Truly. You've become quite a woman.

kind of makes me want to stop painting, though! You reinforced ideas about the things about art I always kind of assumed anyway.

btw, New Haven is 15 minutes from here.. next time you decide to take a crazy road trip to Ikea central, drop me a line.

"Quite a woman!" . . . that's quite a compliment! haha

Come on! Don't be ridiculous about your painting, please. The act of creating a piece of art is far removed from the daily frustrations that are built into working as an Arts Administrator. Plus the pay is shit. I'd rather make nothing and hear about peoples lives and thoughts all day instead. That's all.

I've been meaning to tell you how much I love the portraits you've been posting. They're very expressive and unlike the graphic stuff I know. You've really progressed beyond working in a style like Giger (yes, I remember that!) and into your own. Don't stop.

I probably will go back soon. My boyfriend and I went on a lark, and at the time, I didn't have the money to buy this loveseat I wanted. I'll let you know! (Same with Boston, if you ever visit.)

Oh don't worry, I'll visit Boston. It's like home to me! And I'll let you knonow before I come%e, maybe we can go get some tea or coffee or some other kind of liquid-borne stimulant.

Just as soon as I get my car fixed/replaced (which will be soon) I'm planning on taking some crazy road trips.

Thanks for the compliments about the portraits. The things I've been posting recently have been over the course of the past 5 years or so. I have loads, just not enough motivation all the time to scan and crop and resizize and all that. "a style like Giger" heh. Yeah I remember that too.
