So I've allowed my job to swallow up my life for the past few months...It's not the best job, but it keeps the cats fed and I get to work with really nice folks (for the most part).

I may miss a few but I've read the following books since my last post:
Look at Me - Jennifer Egan
Absurdistan - Gary Shteyngart
Wicked - Gregory Maguire
Under the Read more... )

First of all, welcome back. We've all missed you.

Secondly, I think David Mitchell should be cutting you in on his royalties. And you should be Daniel Radcliffe's agent.

Thirdly, I think the Porter at JC was yanking your chain ...

I really like J.M. Coetzee and Annie Proulx. And that was the summer of 2000, before his nobel prize and her synonymity with gay cowboys. You just don't like Robert because he was young, handsome, and well-read!

And Mr. Mitchell should be cutting me on more than just his royalties (nudge nudge)!

PS I too am glad to be "back"

Plbt! I meant yanking your chain over the issue of Cowley Rd being Oxford's "red-light district" ... I think that's just something he told gullible young American summer-schoolers. ;-)

I'm not sure what your coded talk is all about, but some things are best kept quiet.

I too recently read Shteyngart's "Absuridistan". I thought that it was entertaining, but nothing life altering. And then I read O'Toole's "Confederacy of Dunces," which is basically the same book set in New Orleans. Kind of disappointed in Shteyngart (and all the reviewers who put it on their "Best of" lists).

PS-Your email was most unenlightening.
