But that was love and it's an ache I still remember

He should have been the very first person she told about the letter. She should have called him as soon as she opened it. But she'd been so in shock, convinced that they had mailed her the wrong letter and that she'd be getting a rejection any day now. Quinn had carried the acceptance letter since the day she got it, folded and tucked safely int ( Read more... )

It seemed like McKinley was always swirling with rumors; for the most part, Jason ignored them. Even the ones about Quinn. Not because he didn't care. It had more to do with the fact that if he responded to everything he heard, not only would he be fired, but he also would have sent more than a few people home with a black eye or worse.

He'd been at the gym when he received her call, working out some of his frustration on a heavy bag. There was something in her voice that made it sound important...just not in a bad way, at least. Jason had decided to grab a shower, knowing that he was going to meet Quinn later, he wanted to look halfway decent.

Admittedly, there were trust issues that he had, and in applied to everyone. Was he trying to get past them with Quinn? Absolutely. But it was a slow process. Electing against stopping for food, Jason headed straight for the apartment where they were going to meet up, trying to ignore the nervous feeling in his gut. He was dressed simply, just a hoodie and a pair of jeans.

With no rehearsal after school that day, and her mom off at some church retreat, Quinn opted to go straight over to his apartment. She knew it would mean waiting for it, but it would give her time to clear her mind. There was no reason to be nervous, and yet she couldn't help that twinge of anxiety in her stomach. Jason loved her, she didn't doubt that much, but he had a temper. So what if he wasn't as happy for her as she was hoping for?

Rather than go inside and wait in the hallway, which probably would have been the smarter move, she took a seat on the front steps. Their winter had been mild, and the fresh air would do her good, or so she thought.

Running through a practice script in her head, one in which she made it perfectly clear that her going off to Yale would in no way change their relationship, and once she graduated they could really be together, was doing nothing to calm her nerves. Not that it mattered. As soon as she saw him, it all seemed to fly out of her head anyway. Rising from the steps, smoothing down her white ( ... )

Seeing Quinn sitting on the steps did nothing to chase away the feeling in the pit of his stomach. It wasn't unexpected, though. She'd always had that effect on him. Fleeting glances from her was enough to make his heart race more than a battlefield ever had. Pulling the head back to reveal his face, Jason watched her rising, saw the smile that crossed her face.

The dress looked perfect on her. Keeping his arms down at his sides, Jason could feel his lips threatening to pull in a smile, but kept it from happening...at least until he knew, good or bad what she had needed to see him about. It felt important.

Stepping in closer, he didn't immediately make a move for the door, and his eyes had yet to leave her. "Hey," he said softly, though there an underlying affection to his tone. "You look..." He didn't finish the sentence, his eyes said everything. Quinn was more than beautiful

There was a time when that unwillingness to smile would have sent Quinn into immediate panic mode. Trying to figure out exactly what she had done wrong, and how she could fix it. But after the first couple months, she had finally learned to look past it. To pay more attention to the littler things. To read the emotion in his eyes. The little he would let her see, at least ( ... )
