I hear you on the parental disapproval of fandom - my dad has been quite vocal (and obnoxiously rude, imho) about how he thinks being in ANY fandom, much less where the subject(s) are much younger than I am and foreign (so much for teaching me to appreciate other cultures, Dad! :/), is a VERY BAD THING. I seriously hate it. Especially since I'm 1. married with my own family and my son is in fandoms too (EXO being one of them :P) and 2. not only in another freakin' country, but old enough to make my own decisions, kthx, without needing validation from him. EUGH parents. (and I AM one LOL ( ... )

My dad can still pretty much tolerate my fandoms even if he thinks I'm told old for it. Although I wish he'd gone to Japan with me so he could've seen for himself that people HIS AGE can still enjoy fandom. A lot of Japanese TVXQ fans I met kept telling me that I was so young and that they HAD CHILDREN MY AGE~ oTL My mom is ok with it as long as I don't spend anything on them. But it's always been my plan to travel the world and watching concerts overseas is just my way of combining two things that I'm really passionate about: travel and music. They have a hard time understanding the concept of YOLO. =))

But omg it's so adorable that your son is also into EXO! <3 If my future kids ever get into fandom, I will support them as long as it doesn't get in the way of their studies or whatever haha.

Unfortunately my dad is of the persuasion that me having younger friends (esp. under 21) means I'm a pedophile which just....whut? (seriously. it pisses me off sfm. suddenly I can't have friends of any age now if they're younger than me? might as well give up and die then. >.<#) He actually had the cheek to snap my laptop closed on my fingers while I was chatting with friends, IN MY OWN HOUSE, and I told him if he ever did that again, he was no longer welcome in my house. (and then he said the above, which just added insult to injury. So yeah, we don't get on at all, or see eye to eye...) He also said there was no need for me to visit my friends/go to concerts/other countries for fun and I was just like...ok no longer listening, gtfo/stfu. (he had a fit when he found out I went to Japan to see Kanjani8 in concert, nvm that I also spent 2 weeks sightseeing on my own. He said it was a waste of my time and money. *sighs* Sometimes I wonder if my dad is really in this reality, because he just has the stupidest ideas and attitudes I have ( ... )

Wow I'd also be really pissed if my dad did that to me. I mean if you have your own family already, I think you're entitled to do what you want. And besides, we don't spend most of our trips fangirling, right? I mean, I usually just dedicated one day for a concert or something then spend the rest of the trip immersing myself in the culture of that country. I don't see how that can be considered as wasting money. There's so much to see and learn out there. I guess we just have to show them gradually how amazing it can be.

That is so cute. :3 I got to meet a lot of friends in school because of Kpop and Jpop so I think it's one of the perks of being a fan. ^_^ Also a nice feeling when you get a friend interested haha
