Food advice needed

So, before this snowpocalypse, I decided I would stock up on grocerys so I would not have to walk to the store every time I wanted something. This was probably a good plan. But, I didn't plan what I would want to eat, so I bought a bag of potatos, a bag of onions and a bag of apples. Oh, and a giant brick of cheese. I also have eggs and flour ( Read more... )

gnocci. Spatzle. dumplings boiled in stock. all lovely variations on potatoes and plain flour and very tasty. Also, onion pie! biscuits (er, that requires shortening.) scalloped potatoes and onions should you like them. (I don't.)

Don't have recipes? Google them. There are BAZILLIONS of recipes online.

Social I can't help you with.

Hm... onions and apples can go well together sauted (they're both sweet then). potato gratin, some kind of soup...

Do you have any lasagne? you could do medieval lasagne - cook the noodles in stock, layer with cheese and spices.

Unfortunately I'm a mile away (further than the store), or I'd love to socialize. Hm.. maybe after this dies down you could come over and meet the cat!

Hmmm, good suggestions! I don't think I actually have your phone #. But yes, I would like to meet your cat.

Eggs of your preferred cooking style, and hash browns or home fries? Onions make those tasty. Or you could similarly cut up an apple, brown it and sugar it, and have it as a breakfasty dessert thing.

Stock cubes, diced onions, potatoes, and pesto might make interesting soup? It will take a while, but if you make a large pot, you can store it in the fridge or the freezer in individual servings, and heat those up rather easily.

I have definitely been contemplating baked apple type options. I may try and be inventive this evening and see what I come up with.

The first thing that came to mind was some kind of potato curry...do you have some spices? Cut potato into goodish chunks and steam till cooked. Take some onion and apple and chop small, saute with curry spices (either curry powder, or some tumeric, cumin, garlic, pepper cinnamon etc, whatever sounds good to you)add a bit of liquid water or stock cube water and it will form a kind of sauce, which you can pour over the potatoes.

Another idea was potato pancakes and applesauce. Grate up potato and some onion, mix in an egg, and enough flour to keep it from being too wet, and fry as little crispy pancakes. Applesauce - just peel and cut up some apples, cook in a small amount of water until soft and tasty. these two dishes are really good together.

Give me a call if you want to come over here, I'll be home all day tomorrow sewing and artmaking...

Curry sounds like a fantastic plan, and warming too. And my mom used to make potato pancakes, which I have not had in years, but is also a great plan. I will certainly consider coming over depending on what time I am up, I have sewing and artmaking of my own that would be better with company. I think I may keep to the neighborhood though, because I know I won't get stranded anywhere.

better to stay safe and warm then to get stuck somewhere. What is usually a not quite an hour on the bus round trip errand took me more than half the day today. If you want to be brave and travel you would be welcome, but I understand about not taking chances, this weather is a force to be reckoned with...
