Warnings: Mean girls?
Dream Effect: Severe social anxiety, which fades off at the end.
He waited where she had asked him to, the junction where the hall turned toward the exit. It wasn't his fault if the people walking by thought that he was weird, standing in the corner with a sullen expression on his face and several books in his hands. They were a bunch of incompetent imbeciles. If they didn't like the way he was, then it meant that they were too selfish and preoccupied to care about anyone but themselves.
Voices echoed down the halls, cheerful and excited, accompanied by laughter. He sometimes thought that University was like a glorified high school for these light-hearted morons. Even though their future careers were at stake, they were more interested in parties than they were in their studies. There was only one sound he wanted to hear. One voice that stood apart from all the others. It rose above the others like the tinkling of a bell, pure and undefiled by human nature.
“I'm so happy. We're going to be spending the evening together again.”
“But isn't he that guy who always sits in the back and reads and never talks to anyone?”
“He studies a lot, but that's because he's really smart. His grades are at the top of the class, you know.”
“I can't believe you asked that guy out a second time. He's so creepy. Just looking at him gives me the shivers. Why do you even talk to him, Kanan?”
“Gonou's not creepy, he's just shy. Come meet him and you'll see.”
The two girls chatting with her nearly walked right past him, but Kanan stopped. Her dirty blond hair swung around like spun silk as she turned toward him and smiled. The other two looked back to see why she had stopped, and gaped up at the corner. From the looks on their faces, you'd think they'd seen a monster.
“Hello, Gonou.”
He ignored the others and stared at Kanan for a moment, her shining hair and her welcoming smile. They were from two different worlds. What could someone like her possibly see in him? “Hello.”
She giggled a bit at the awkwardness in his voice, but she wasn't mocking him. She laughed in pure happiness.
“Come on, let's go.”
[After the dream was over, Hakkai woke up to find his Dreamberry glowing purple and an object sitting beside it. He quickly turned the Dreamberry off before anyone could see what his gift was.]
