wow, I really enjoyed reading that post! A lot of it resonated with what I experienced on a smaller level in Argentina, with political thinking and cultural comparisons (religion too, to a miniscule extent) and groups of Americans. I hope we can chat about this more when you get back, because I'm really interested!

The article was chilling...the way it opened with the quote on how happy he was about 9/11. The professor seems to have a really bizarre relationship with the western world, hating the idea of it but embracing cultural aspects of literature and movies? Odd.

I agree that a lot of the comments were really stupid/ignorant. Like how one person wrote sadist/Islamist like it was the same thing, or one that said how all Muslim immigration should be stopped.

Ditto on the media thing, though I have noticed when they have articles on more mainstream Islam or once I think there was an editorial about a woman who had converted to Islam and started wearing a headscarf and the freedoms it gave her. Pretty interesting stuff. I hate having to argue with my dad whenever he says Islam seems like it encourages violence more than other religions/cultures. At the same time, reports on terrorists and suicide bombers in Israel don't do much to paint a better picture. I guess it's just a very complex issue.
