Thoughts on my first week...

My first week at my new job was quite fantastic. My desk was full of more office supplies than I ever thought I'd need, ( Read more... )

OMG what a freakin' fantastic job. Can I work at your company?!?!?!?! What kind of consulting firm? (I'm not sure if you mentioned it in one of your previous posts). As I consultant, I'm always interested in what other consulting firms are doing!

I don't think I did mention it, actually. It's Watson Wyatt Worldwide. We consult on things like pension plans, benefits, stuff like that - a "global human capital and financial management consulting firm". Check out the "services" link from the main website, and you'll see what we do! I'm in the pension administration department.

I don't log my hours, but that's just because Marketing is a non-billing department. ;)

We bill the same way. Every minute of my day - even when I take 5 minutes to pee - is billed to a project. The most common question heard in my office is, "what project do I bill these hours to?"

Pee breaks and such are coded as "non-billable", so it's not quite as bad at our office. But, we do have to make sure we've got 1660 billable hours a year, which works out to about 6.7 billable hours a day, apparently (I haven't done the math myself). So far, I haven't been able to achieve this :).
