Actually, "defeat" makes sense if you take it as a verb. It parallels some of the other verbs offered: "I control them." "I overthrow them." "I defeat them." See also the "conquest" listed there, with "destruction" and "domination" and "the upper hand" and "killing".
But it does provide an excellent example of why thesaurus use needs to be accompanied with dictionary use. Especially with how many nouns in English are also verbs.
