The one downside of our housing situation is that there is a shared laundry room with a single washer and dryer set. Maybe we need to get that type of hamper!

Our dryer broke a few weeks ago and I hope (sort of) to fix it. I've taken it apart, but it isn't clear what is wrong with it. The symptoms show there might be multiple things wrong.

So I've taken up hanging my clothes to dry. And it is a blessing, like your coin-op laundry. I start a load every morning before breakfast and hang it right after breakfast, taking the dry load down right before hanging the wet one. No more mega-load days to make up for missed wash days, I just wash a load daily. It has actually been less stressful than the dryer. :-) Also, no more piles of laundry to fold at night.
