Look at this picture closely, and you'll notice a Windows "Start" button right under the Palm logo:
This is just not right!
Not surprisingly, this oxymoron of a product launched to mostly disastrous reviews. Here's the
New York Times take on the matter (with a copy on
C|NET for those too lazy to register). Basically the article says that with a small step forward in hardware, Palm took a giant leap back in usability, thanks to Windows Mobile®. "A Frankensteinian mishmash" indeed.
And you'd think that after well over a
decade in development -- and by version 5.0 -- Microsoft would get it at least somewhat right. But then again, they no longer have to try all that hard. If their biggest competitors embrace their half-baked products, what incentive do Gates and Co. have left to put another dollar into software development?
