In the wake of the Mumbai terrorist acts

For all those who have asked or are wondering, I'm fine and, at the moment, about a thousand kilometers south of Mumbai (Bombay).

Having said that, it is interesting to observe how India reacted to the event. The main emphasis seems to be on restoring stability and normal operation. They managed to repair most of the damage from yesterday's ( Read more... )

Well that is india and still we have patience when everyone around is attacking us. Be it from pakistan side or nepal or the enemies who have infiltrated within. We still follow the non-violence way and appease the minorities and its kind of sad that the government wont do much and we will suffer in silence :(

Apathetic India ? I think not ! anonymous July 16 2006, 21:47:12 UTC
Ok, so my Russian American friend appears somewhat repulsed at the apparent lack of feeling betrayed by the Indians after the Mumbai bombings. His observations are not so far from the truth, but as an Indian born (and raised) American, I want to come to the defense of my home country here. Indians are incredibly realistic, this healthy attitude towards life manifests itself in measured responses to tragedy. In fact, Indians mostly find Americans in particular to be rather hypocritical and find that they largely overreact to events.

I think you may be somewhat somewhat confused as to the point being made here, my friend. In fact I see him saying exactly the same thing you are. I quote:

In fact, even five years later, America is still paying an enormous price for being completely psychologically unprepared for a disaster. India, on the other hand, seems to be able to recover in a matter of just hours.

Granted, to an american, such reaction is somewhat strange, since people here are mostly used to overly-sensitive, commentary-filled tear-jerking stories on the news, but I get the distinct impression that this post is mostly a praise for Indian ability to deal with things on a very realistic scale, without blowing things out of proportion for no good reason.

BTW... you wouldn't happen to be Vik, would you?
