Radio Memory: So go on and let the rain pour, I'll be all you need and more

Jan 24, 2011 09:52

[It sounds like there's static on the line, though if you listen closely, one can determine that it's rain. The light noise is interrupted by the unmistakeable sound of a gunshot.]

"That's as far as you go."

[The voice is male, and recognisable to those who knew him as that of one Colonel Roy Mustang. Snap. There's the sound of the safety being ( Read more... )

[There's a little pause before she answers.]

Yes Krile, it's me.

[She seems to have exhaled on her end of the radio.]

It would seem as though you've shared another of my memories with me.

I--want to say sorry, but we can't control it. Still, this should be private.

I hope you stopped that man. Whoever he was.

I hope we did too. And it's fine Krile, I don't mind.

Yes, I have known that we came from the same place for some time now. I served as his subordinate.

...is this Sky?

Yes, ma'am.

I see. I served under him as an Adventurer for a while, but quit when the Watch was formed.

[She's not going to say how much she misses him. She's not going to say how after months of his absense the sound of his voice on the radio filled her briefly with the vainest of hopes that he'd come back.]

The Colonel is a fine man and I am glad you had the chance to know him.

[There's plenty to comment on, among them why the heck someone would think fire would work in rain, but the memory of something in particular stands out to him.]

...Fullmetal and alchemists, huh?

[Roy Mustang, for all his brilliance, is a complete dope it would seem. There's a pause.]

It's... not the first time I've heard those terms. Why do you ask?

Not the first time I've heard 'Fullmetal Alchemist' either, though the context was a bit... surreal.

Does the name Edward Elric ring any bells?

Fullmetal Alchemist?

[Wow. Big old tug of familiarity right there. And-]

Edward... Elric? It-

I feel as though perhaps it should...

Gene, how do you know about this?

Snap...? [His voice is quiet, and somewhat hopeful, but that lingering sound is immediately dispelled at his next words,] Well. It looks like you were just as efficient wherever you came from, Captain.

There used to be a kid here named Alchemy. Short, blond hair in a braid, easy to rile up. Sound familiar?

Thank you Captain Vimes.

The Colonel mentioned a person called Alchemy once and a Fullmetal. It was just after I was born. But as for the person you're describing...

[The description seems so close to familiar; she has this nagging feeling that it should be, but she can't place it.]

I don't know. It seems as though it should but... I just don't know, I've been here so long but I still don't know anything.

Yeah, I know how that feels. I knew a woman for a good long time before we managed to figure out that she was one of my men.

He was a good kid. I didn't know him too well, but I figure I might be one of the few left who remember him. If you ever decide you want to know more about him, I can lend you a hand there.

[There's a small, soft sound of amusement from Target's end.]

He certainly is that.
