Winter Trade means one thing: New Pirates!

And Pirates leaving. Reds trade Casey to Pirates for left-hander WilliamsThoughts, responses, ideas? Personally I couldn't be any more impartial to it. I never really cared much for Williams, but at the same time I didn't necessarily dislike him. But Sean Casey could be of help to us, so why not, eh? ( Read more... )

i was never a huge fan of williams. he seemed like a nice enough guy, and he did do a good job as a spot starter, but he would not be in the starting rotation on a lot of decent ballclubs. the reds needed the pitching help, and we have more than enough pitching, so i think this was/is a good trade for both parties. casey may not hit for power, but he certainly hits for average, which is never a bad thing. i'm a little concerned about what this will mean for brad eldred, but at the moment i'm positive.

i liked williams i thought he was a good player. im not a fan of casey though. but as again we got a big name guy so I bet he doesnt last the season. Always make a big hype about these guys in the winter and into spring training but then even if he does good Ithink he'll get traded.

personally i think we need a new general manager

Casey's no "big name" really.

The reason a lot of the previous veterans get traded is because the team hasn't been in any position to make a playoff run.

I think Sean will split time with C. Wilson at first; this move may indicate that the team isn't sold yet on Eldred. (Which they shouldn't be.)

I'm mildly encouraged by this deal, even if it mean giving up a guy (DWill) who was getting rather acclimated to his spot at the back end of the Bucs' rotation--and doing well in that role, I might add.

THey said Eldred isn't ready for an everyday starter until probably another year!

I think Sean Casey will be a huge help, but they said last night they believe he's another rent a player for one year! I liked Dave Williams, partly because he was our top pitcher last year with wins! However, I think Sean will give us some power at the 1st base side!

It's only for one year so I don't mind it. I think he has some outrageous numbers at PNC Park too, so I guess it is good. But he seems to get injured quite often. If he stays healthy good move, but if he gets hurt most of the season it was a waste of $8 million.

I also heard they were pursuing Milton Bradley, Trot Nixon, & they offered Bill Mueller a contract. I don't like signing Mueller. They need a power hitter & he is not that. Joe Randa is probably the best free agent third basemen out there. I'd rather see them get him.

I've been lusting after Milton Bradley for three years now. He's an explosive player that would give the Buccos an immediate offensive upgrade. If we pick him up, I'll do a little dance.
