George yawned slightly as he made his way into the mess, for his morning cup of coffee. Gah, he still hated the taste of the stuff, but with his sleep the way it was, he was drinking it well.

And there was his missing mate. "Chris? Baby what's wrong?" He didn't call Chris that often, since most the time it didn't get a good response but...

Chris startled slightly at being addressed, not even really noticing the hated endearment. He hadn't been paying much attention to what was going on around him - not smart at the best of times. Squinting at the chrono again, he was surprised to realize that several hours had passed.

More than several, actually. A barely decent night's sleep worth of hours. And here was George, bleary-eyed and looking like he hadn't spent nearly enough of the intervening time unconscious. Chris made a point of going to bed when George did, realizing that George seemed to sleep better with both he and Winnie there bracketing him, but he hadn't been there tonight.

"Oh," he said vaguely, thumb reflexively tracing the rounded edge of the PADD. "Damn, I didn't realize how much time'd passed, I'm sorry..."

George straddled the bench next to Chris, and rested his hand on Chris' far shoulder. "Talk to me please?" He took away the PADD and grabbed Chris' hand not really caring who was in the mess. It'd only be the insomniacs like him or the grinds who liked getting up several hours early for their shifts, and no one paid attention to anyone really.

Chris sighed and rubbed at his tired eyes. "Read it, George," he said, gesturing to the PADD. "You can read it."

Bones had woken up - well, to be honest he hadn't made it to sleep. Another late night, another missed dinner, and instead of using the food replicator and waking up Kirk, who clearly needed the sleep, he headed out of their room and down to the mess hall for something to snack on.

It wasn't empty at this time. Bones noted as he walked over to the food replicator and made himself a cup of cocoa. Taking a step to Pike, he nodded respectfully. "Admiral," he said, looking down. "Up late. Or early," he smirked. "How are you doing?"

Chris looked up at McCoy, who looked about as tired as he felt. "No time in space, Doctor," he said, voice a little hoarse from a combination of remaining quiet for so long and the dry ship's atmosphere, and he took a sip of cold coffee to lubricate his throat a little. Then he added, evading the question, "Take a seat."

"Thanks," he replied, sitting down. There was something unsettling about both men being out of uniform, but it was the middle of the night, so Bones cut himself some slack.

"Trouble sleeping?" he wondered, taking a sip of his cocoa.

"Haven't exactly tried yet tonight," Chris answered, forefinger tapping aimlessly at a couple of buttons that didn't actually seem to do anything much. "But I'd imagine so."
