With op. 28 Chopin delivered 24 very pretty preludes. Several, inlcuding the major 15th. aka raindrop (soundtrack for face off), were composed in Majorca under the influences of G. Sand or, god knows what drove him, the climate.

I am *very appropriately* reminded of Mr. Sir Captain Beefheart's "Bat Chain Puller" whose rhythm was based on his car's windshield wipers, slow and groaning. Wiping away the pattering rain.

I hear the bass in #9 as a sudden hailstorm attack in the middle of the rainy day! Or a car starting up outside his window! Ever think of that? A engine gunning away in the night, then idling for the rest of the piece. "Engine" prelude.

and let us remember Albert Marcoeur, who sampled engines running at different tones to construct a lovely etude of his own.
