Last night I put a translation in of a Catullus poem where he translated one of hers into Latin. Here is a translation by one of my favorite poets writing in English, William Carlos Williams. This version is from the Greek:
That man is peer of the gods, who face to face sits listening to your sweet speech and lovely laughter.
It is this that rouses a tumult in my breast. At mere sight of you my voice falters, my tongue is broken.
Straightway, a delicate fire runs in my limbs; my eyes are blinded and my ears thunder.
Sweat pours out: a trembling hunts me down. I grow paler than grass and lack little of dying.
It's beautiful. I love poetry, so much in so little. I was re-reading bits of Time Traveler's Wife for english class 'cause we have to do an essay on the aesthetic beauty of a piece of literature that we read for school recently, and now I'm in the biggest poetry/opera mood in my life. Come, let's go see the opera!
but OMG Becca I've been stood up by my partners D:<
Chances are they're in the school library instead of the public one, but the school doors are locked. curses!
egads, dear mary, to be stood up is a bitch. especially for so necessary a task as for school. wasted time is annoying. If you were to be in love i would have to of course ask for a full detailed summary of the affair, for such curiosity is in my nature. Happy Hols! Happy Christmas! and Fortunate New Years!!xP.
