****WARNING --- This following post deals with the death of a
child -- Not in details, just in context. Some of you may want to skip it.****

This past Tuesday evening, a good friend of our family's was killed in
a house fire, along with his 10-year old daughter.
It happened about 6:00 p.m., and no one knows why they didn't make it out.

The fire investigators have been looking at the scene since it happened.

The father was in the living room. The girl was in the kitchen.

They have several theories... and there are even a few rumors going
around too.

It happened in a very small town, approx. 400 people.
The neighbor across the street happened to be outside, and saw smoke
coming out of the house. They called 911.

I spoke with the father's youngest brother tonite. He is my age.
I kinda grew up with their family.
Our fathers played music together for years.
When I called him, he had just spoken with the police, who asked
him if Terry had any enemies.
I can't imagine that he did.
Terry was one of the coolest people I've ever known.
He was the oldest of their siblings, and I always thought of him
as the big brother I never had.

He was a very talented saxophone player, and won some awards for it.

One weird thing is... about a week before this happened, my Mom told
me she had seen Terry a couple months back, and he had really started
to straighten up his life. (He used to drink a bit.)
We also found out that he had just been saved about a week before this
happened, and had been reading the Bible.

The house he lived in was originally owned by his parents.
I remember going there when I was younger.
It was an old house, with old wiring, so it could have been
coincidence that this happened as it did.
Terry worked nights, and may have been sleeping at the time.

The fire investigator said that the worst part of the fire
appeared to be in the living room.

I don't know what else to say.

Terry was a good guy, and certainly didn't deserve to die
this way.
He will be missed.
